Firewise

What is Firewise?

Firewise is a voluntary program that provides a framework to help neighbors get organized, find direction, and take action to increase the ignition resistance of their homes and community.

The Greater Oakridge-Westfir Area and the City of Oakridge are both Firewise communities!

To maintain our Firewise status, the community must document annual volunteer hours. Firewise hours include homeowner work such as:

  • Mowing the lawn

  • Removing leaves, debris, and flammable materials from roofs, gutters, and decks

  • Relocating firewood piles at least 30 feet from the home

  • Helping neighbors Firewise their property

  • Dropping off yard debris at the Oakridge Westfir Yard Debris program, see flyer below.

Have you completed Firewise work around your property? We want to know!

Oakridge-Westfir's Firewise Yard Debris Disposal

Oakridge Air partners with the City of Oakridge to maintain an option for yard debris disposal. This helps to reduce smoke from unnecessary backyard bursn, while also encouraging yard and plant maintinence to protect homes from fire and help them achieve Firewise status.
